NSCDC foils planned attack on oil pipeline installations, arrests 17 suspects

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has foiled a planned attack on oil pipeline installations in the Niger Delta region, arresting 17 high-profile vandals and sea pirates.
The suspects, led by a notorious vandal and kidnapper, Ziakede Amatu, were arrested by the NSCDC’s Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’S SIS) in a tactically coordinated intelligence-based operation.
According to the NSCDC, the suspects were responsible for the killing of Assistant Superintendent Umar Aliyu and the theft of a speed boat belonging to Tantita Security Services.
The NSCDC said the suspects had planned to launch a renewed attack on oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta region, disguising themselves as Tantita Security Services personnel.
The suspects, who were arrested at Tonogbe, Ekeremo Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, confessed to carrying out various crimes, including vandalism, kidnapping, and armed robbery.
The NSCDC recovered several exhibits from the suspects, including an AK47 rifle, empty AK47 magazines, charms, and Tantita Security uniforms.
The NSCDC Commander, CG’S SIS, thanked the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for providing the necessary logistic support for the operation.
The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court soon.
