Obaseki dissolves cabinet ahead of power transition

With only days left until the end of his administration, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has dissolved his cabinet, setting the stage for Senator Monday Okpebholo’s inauguration as the incoming governor.
The dissolution took place on Friday after a final cabinet meeting and valedictory session at the Government House in Benin City.
Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo, alongside Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Osilama Okuofu, led the call for the dissolution of the State Executive Council for the 2020-2024 term. This decision marks a formal conclusion to Obaseki’s two-term tenure, which concludes in five days.
During the farewell session, Governor Obaseki expressed his appreciation to the cabinet members, commending them for their dedication to the state’s developmental goals. He praised their support in fulfilling promises and implementing strategic reforms that have driven progress across key areas, including education, agriculture, infrastructure, and economic development.
In a display of gratitude, cabinet members and agency heads presented the Governor with awards and tokens of recognition, acknowledging his transformative leadership. The meeting ended on a high note, followed by a dinner celebrating Obaseki’s achievements and contributions over the past eight years.
