Octogenarian man injured in Kwara fire outbreak

In Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Saturday an 86-year-old man suffered several degrees of injuries in a fire incident that ravaged his building around Asa Dam Road, Ilorin.
The elderly man, whose identity was yet to be identify at the time this report was filed, was said to have sustained the injury on the head with his hair burnt when he leaped into his burning apartment on Afolayan Street to save his belongings.
It was gathered that the fire started when the old man left what he was cooking to see a visitor off.
The man was also said to have stopped by a shop to buy some items unknown to him that his apartment was already on fire.
The Kwara State Fire Service which confirmed the incident in a statement by Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, stated that the fire crew promptly responded to the scene to diminish the raging fire damaged.
“Investigations revealed that an 86-year-old occupant had been cooking and momentarily stepped out to attend to someone. Upon returning, he discovered his apartment was on fire.
Adekunle said, “In a state of distress, he re-entered the burning apartment, possibly to retrieve belongings, and suffered injuries, including burns to the hair on his head,”.
He noted that the injured man was swiftly taken to the nearest hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
