Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, has pledged a total clampdown on criminal elements operating in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area and across Kogi West Senatorial District following the killing of a retired military officer, Major Joe Ajayi.

The Governor disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday through his Special Adviser on Media, Ismail Isah.

During a condolence visit to the late Major’s family in Odo-Ape community, the governor described the slain officer as “a true patriot who served the country with honour and dedication,” noting that his tragic death must not be in vain.

“We are here to sympathise with the family for the loss of our brother. I was personally touched when I heard about his death.

“Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will remain with us. It would be a disservice to his memory if we fold our arms and allow criminals to take over our land,” the governor said.

He assured residents that his administration would use all necessary resources to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice and peace is restored to the area.

Ododo also warned against the unregulated influx of individuals posing as investors and directed traditional rulers to be more cautious in land allocations.

“Any individual or group found aiding or abetting crime in any community will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

Earlier, the governor visited a local security outpost and reiterated the need for vigilance and community cooperation in fighting crime.

Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, the late officer’s younger brother, Titus Ajayi, thanked Ododo for his visit, describing it as a strong source of comfort and a reassurance that justice would be done.
