Okpebholo dissolves state commissions

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate dissolution of several commissions within the state, including the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).
The directive, which was announced on Tuesday, also affects other key institutions, such as the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), the Edo State Forestry Commission, the House of Assembly Service Commission, the State Audit Service Commission, and the Judicial Service Commission.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, and made available to journalists in Benin City, the decision takes effect immediately.
The statement read: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo has approved the dissolution of all commissions in Edo State Government Public Service with immediate effect.
“Accordingly, all chairmen and members of the commissions are advised to hand over all government properties in their possession to the most senior public officer in their commission.”
Governor Okpebholo’s decision signals a significant shake-up in the state’s governance structure as he takes steps to reposition critical government institutions for improved efficiency and service delivery.
