Otubanjo sets goal record in Armenia

Yusuf Olaitan Otubanjo, a Nigerian striker has emerged as the foreign player with the most goals in the Armenia Premier League in the history of Pyunik.
After rounding off the scoring in their recent 3-1 home win over FK Van, condemning to the trash can the former record of 31 goals by Marcos Pizzeli between 2009 and 2011, the 31-year-old Emmanuel Amuneke Academy product took his tally for the club to 36.
He found the net on 80 minutes as Pyunik secured their third consecutive victory in the Premier League week 33 game at Junior Sport Stadium in Yerevan, with the visitors parading five Nigerians — Christopher Boniface, Sani Buhari, and Matthew Gbomadu, as starters, while Olaoluwa Ojetunde and Ibrahim Yahaya came on as late substitutes.
Since he represented Nigeria at the U-17 level in 2009, Otubanjo has steadily entrenched himself as a reputable goal scorer at club level, especially in Eastern Europe, tallying 121 goals and 27 assists in 243 games in the colours of FC Pasching, Blau-Weiß Linz, MŠK Žilina, Rheindorf Altach, LASK, Ararat-Armenia, and Pyunik, where he has notched 19 goals and provided seven assists in 25 starts of 27 matches this season.
