Outcome of my committee’s assignment ‘ll strengthen APC ahead 2027 – Gov. Buni

Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, has vowed to work assiduously with other party stakeholders, especially the founding fathers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to deliver on the new mandate given to him at the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling party.
The governor assured that the outcome of his constitutionn review committee will strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The recently held APC NEC meeting had appointed governor Buni Chairman to lead a seven-man panel to review the party’s constitution and accommodate more members into the NEC.
Aside governor Buni as the Chairman of the committee, others are Zen. Opeyemi Bamidele from the South-west, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba from the South-south, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, North-west and Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum from the North-east among others.
Speaking with newsmen Friday in Abuja, Governor Buni, who was a National Secretary and Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the APC at different time, promised to take the assignment seriously.
According to the Yobe state governor, the caliber of the members of the committee are seasoned and committed party members, who are willing to contribute to the development of the party.
He said: “We shall also be in consultation with founding fathers of the party. Those who drafted the constitution of the party, we are consulting them, because we know, it takes wisdom to produce a party constitution. We cannot discard their wisdom and create something different. We will consult them.
“It is about all about inclusivity. We are going to work on that and by the grace of God, we are sure, God will guide us and see us through to deliver on the work as expected of us.”
On the mandate to accommodate more members into the NEC, the governor said: “The party is growing, you have to do so many things to accommodate and so many people too. You know, political party is where you have a lot of competing and conflicting interests.
“The President in his wisdom, has seen to all these things and of course there has been clamour for so many changes and with that I am sure we are going to address some of these clamours.”
When asked how his assignment will strengthen the party ahead of 2027 general elections, Buni said: “The party initially has structured the party into six geopolitical zones. Each geopolitical zone is headed by a committee and I happen to be the one in charge of the North East. That is been done, we are on it, and this new committee is to strengthen and further widen the scope of operations and for proper inclusion.
“It is all about inclusivity. We don’t want to exclude people, we want to include people. That means we want to have a document that will strengthen the party and prepare it for the 2027 election.
Political parties doesn’t have a stop gap where you say you stop here and then you continue at the end, No. It is all about end to end, open ended thing. You start from 2023 to 2027, it’s all about preparation. While the President is working and delivering to the nation, it is in preparation for 2027.”
There is no specific time for certain things, it is all about you being in government, you are the one expected to be delivering. So it is a part of delivery. We are delivering it, it is part of it and we are strengthening the party. So you can’t strengthen the party by being static. That is the point I am driving at. We can’t be static and expect to be delivering, you keep improving and that’s what we are trying to do.
Governor Buni specifically expressed interest on the need to include more women and youths of the party.
“For women and youth participation. That’s why I say we are improving. It is all encompassing. We are bringing all these on board. So we are making a very wider recommendation and of course NEC in its wisdom will look at our recommendations and I am sure it’s going to work for members of our party.”
