A Nigerian lady, Oluwa Damisi, has called out the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) over a shocking breach of privacy after her passport application form was allegedly used to wrap akara (bean cakes) by a street vendor.

Damisi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to express her frustration and concern, revealing that a stranger contacted her via WhatsApp with a photo of her passport application slip — complete with her full biodata — being used to package food.

According to her, the form had been submitted to the Immigration Service during her passport application process, making its sudden appearance in public both alarming and unacceptable.

“Omo @nigimmigration @NISResponseNG why is it so easy for someone’s privacy to be breached??!” she wrote. “Someone just texted me on WhatsApp with a picture of my passport application slip, and it was used to sell akara.”

She added that the document contained sensitive personal information, including her name, address, and other biodata, raising serious questions about data handling and confidentiality within the agency.

“The slip contains every single information about my life rn,” she lamented.

Damisi further revealed that the man who found the document didn’t just alert her — he went on to ask her for personal photos, an act that many online users have since condemned as inappropriate.

“This is not even funny. The guy then asked for my pictures on top ‍♀️,” she added.

As of press time, the Nigeria Immigration Service has yet to issue an official response to the incident.
