Oyo govt seals collapsed Item7 Go building

The Oyo State Government has sealed off a collapsed building under reconstruction in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, following a rainstorm that struck parts of the city on Sunday night.
The building, located along the major road leading from Dugbe to Mokola, caved in during the heavy downpour, prompting swift action by the state authorities to prevent further danger.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, announced the government’s decision to cordon off the structure during an on-the-spot assessment on Monday.
According to commissioner, the move was necessary to safeguard lives and property in the area while investigations are carried out to determine the cause of the collapse.
“We have sealed the site to avert casualties and ensure public safety,” Akin-Funmilayo said. “An integrity test will be conducted not only on this building but also on similar structures across the state. This will guide our next course of action.”
He added that the government is committed to enforcing building safety standards and will not hesitate to take firm steps against any form of structural negligence.
Residents and business owners in the area have been advised to stay away from the site while the assessment continues.
The state government is expected to release a comprehensive report after the completion of the structural integrity evaluation.
