Popular veteran actor passes away

South Korea’s entertainment industry is mourning the loss of one of its most revered actors, Choi Jung Woo, whose death was confirmed on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. He was 67.

His agency, Bless ENT, announced the sad news in a statement, noting that the exact cause of death remains unknown at this time.

Born in 1957, Choi began his acting journey in 1975 with the stage play The Life of an Actor. Over the decades, he became a household name, celebrated for his dynamic presence across theatre, television, and voice acting. He was closely associated with notable theatre companies such as Shinsi and earned widespread respect for his versatility and commitment to the craft.

Choi Jung Woo’s distinguished career spanned a wide range of memorable performances in both films and dramas. He featured prominently in productions like God’s Quiz, Two Cops, Public Enemy 2, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, The Chaser, Brilliant Legacy, Prosecutor Princess, Midas, My Daughter Seo Young, Master’s Sun, Call It Love, Tyrant, Who Is She!, and The Tale of Lady Ok.

Fans, colleagues, and the broader public are expected to pay their final respects at his funeral, which will be held at the Gimpo Woori Hospital Funeral Home. The procession is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 29.

Choi’s passing marks the end of an era for many in South Korea’s entertainment scene, leaving behind a legacy of powerful storytelling and passionate performance.
