Tragedy struck Saturday morning as a petrol tanker explosion claimed multiple lives and left several others injured near Dikko junction along the Abuja-Kaduna road in Niger State.
Blueprint reports that the incident occurred after the tanker, loaded with petroleum products, was involved in an accident, causing it to spill its contents. Residents in the area reportedly rushed to scoop fuel before the tanker ignited, resulting in a devastating explosion.
In a swift reaction, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, expressed profound grief over the tragedy, describing it as both heartbreaking and unfortunate.
“This is a national tragedy—worrisome, heartbreaking, and unfortunate,” the governor said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim.
