Senator Buba’s constructive opposition in Bauchi is good for democracy-Forum

A political group known as ‘Bauchi State Assembly Aspirants Forum’ has defended the senator representing Bauchi south, Shehu Buba who openly criticised the state governor Bala Mohammed on how he manages the state’s resources.
Buba during the APC campaign rally for the upcoming local governments elections in the state alleged that from 2023 to date, Governor Bala Mohammed of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) received the sum of over N140 billion from the federal government as grants alleging that there was nothing tangible executed by the governor with the funds within the period under review.
Buba also alleged that the federal government had delivered 70 trucks of guinea corn to the state government to distribute to the less privileged but that they were not distributed.
The senator’s allegations triggered uproar and reactions from the governor’s loyalists who described Buba’s remarks as mere personal grudges against the governor.
However, the forum through its chairman Honourable Aliyu Songuy in a press release issued to our correspondent, opined that the senator’s opposition is constructive adding that it is good for democracy.
Songuy claimed that Buba is the only voice of opposition at the moment in the state asserting that constructive criticism and opposition can help to checkmate the excesses of the government and enhance good governance.
According to him, the PDP and the governor should be tolerant, welcome ‘meaningful criticisms’ and make adjustments in their leadership style with a view to meeting the needs and aspirations of the citizens.
“The people of Bauchi State should be happy that the senator is speaking out on their behalf and I think he is only telling them their entitlements withheld by the government. Doing that will make the governor to do the needful”., he opined.
