Strike: FG releases withheld salaries for NASU members, retiree benefits

Federal Government has commenced the payment of withheld salaries of members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU), according to a statement from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF).
This announcement, signed by OAGF’s Director of Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, was made public on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
The OAGF further disclosed that funds have also been released to cover benefits for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS), offering relief to pensioners who have awaited these payments.
Reports confirm that payments to non-academic staff in federal universities have already begun, with many beneficiaries confirming receipt of their dues.
Thediscovererng.com reports that this development follows a recent strike by NASU members, who had halted activities from the start of the week to protest the delay in the disbursement of their salaries. The union had demanded the immediate release of withheld salaries, citing financial strain among members.
The swift response by the Federal Government aims to address NASU’s grievances and restore normalcy across federal university campuses.
