Tackles hunger, inequality, 105-year-old activist tells Tinubu

A 105-year-old activist Nonye Ezeayaeche, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action against hunger and inequality in Nigeria.

Ezeayaeche, who was the oldest presidential candidate in the 2023 elections under the African Action Congress, emphasized the need for the government to address the issues raised by Nigerian youths during recent protests against hunger and poor governance.

At a press conference at the weekend, she highlighted the importance of upholding freedom of speech and the right to protest, as guaranteed by Nigeria’s constitution and those of many other countries.

“Mr. President, hunger continues despite the protests. Please take concrete steps to address these issues and respond to the people’s demands,” Ezeayaeche said. “Nigeria belongs to all of us. Ensure that everyone’s rights are respected, regardless of their background, to promote peace.”

The centenarian from Anambra State, known as the “great, great, great grandma of Africa,” condemned the exploitation of the protests by individuals seeking to incite violence and disrupt governance. She urged the Federal Government to compensate families of victims and those injured during the protests.

Additionally, she called for the establishment of monitoring groups to ensure that government programs benefit all Nigerians, the elimination of corruption, and the provision of equal employment opportunities for the youth. Ezeayaeche also advised against marginalizing any ethnic group and urged that the wealthy be held accountable for crimes.
