President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), a key pillar in his government’s post-subsidy relief strategy.

The announcement was made public on Friday via a statement released by the State House and signed by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi),” the statement read.

The PCNGi is one of the administration’s major responses to the removal of fuel subsidies, aiming to promote the adoption of cleaner and more cost-effective energy sources across the country.

As Executive Chairman, Ahmed will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and expansion of the initiative’s national operations.

“Ahmed will coordinate the operations of the presidential initiative, which is designed to alleviate the effects of removing fuel subsidies by offering cheaper, more affordable, and cleaner energy options,” Onanuga stated.

Ahmed, 45, earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Abuja in 2005 and was called to the Nigerian Bar the following year. In 2008, he obtained a Master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.

According to the release, he previously served as Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Program from 2018 to 2022.

“The PCNGi is a component of the Tinubu administration’s palliative intervention programme,” the statement emphasised.
