President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent massacre in Plateau State, where more than 40 people were reportedly killed in fresh attacks.

The President has called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to take decisive political action to end the recurring cycle of violence and restore lasting peace to the troubled region.

In a statement issued on Monday, April 14, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the attacks and described them as senseless and avoidable. He also offered his condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Plateau State.

“The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease,” Tinubu declared.

The President noted that while it is important to bring the perpetrators to justice, the state must go further to address the root causes of the decades-long conflict. He emphasized that only through deliberate dialogue, social cohesion, and accountability can true peace be achieved.

“I have instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate this crisis and identify those responsible for orchestrating these violent acts. We cannot allow this devastation and the tit-for-tat attacks to continue. Enough is enough,” he said.

President Tinubu stressed that the Plateau crisis has persisted for more than 20 years and can no longer be ignored. He urged Governor Mutfwang to summon the political will needed to confront the structural issues driving the violence.

“Beyond dealing with the criminal elements of these incessant killings, the political leadership in Plateau State must address the root cause of this age-long problem. These problems have been with us for more than two decades. We can no longer ignore the underlying issues. It is time to tackle them fairly and find a lasting solution,” the statement added.

Tinubu revealed that he has had multiple discussions with Governor Mutfwang on the situation and has offered suggestions to help restore calm in the affected communities.

The President further called on community, religious, and political leaders across the state and beyond to come together and end the cycle of reprisal attacks that have made life unbearable for many.

He assured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting Plateau State in promoting reconciliation and ensuring peace through meaningful dialogue and justice.
