Tinubu removes NYSC DG, appoints replacement

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly removed Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed as the Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Ahmed, who was appointed in January 2023 by former president Muhammadu Buhari, has now been replaced by Brigadier-General Nafiu Olakunle, a seasoned artillery officer from Ileogbo in Aiyedire Local Government Area of Osun State.
Brigadier-General Olakunle’s appointment has generated widespread reactions, particularly from his home state, Osun, where many have hailed the decision as a well-deserved recognition of his dedication and service.
His leadership is expected to bring significant changes to the NYSC, an institution crucial for fostering national unity, youth empowerment, and capacity-building.
The NYSC, established in 1973, has been instrumental in promoting inter-ethnic relationships and national development by deploying graduates across the country for a one-year mandatory service.
Over the years, its impact has been widely acknowledged, though challenges such as insecurity, inadequate funding, and structural reforms have remained pressing concerns.
