Tinubu’s Rivers peace deal collapses

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Monday has broken one of the eight-point peace deal when he declared that the state House of Assembly no longer exist, the peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State suffered a major setback.
Fubara and his former boss now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, once had signed peace deal by president to the state house of assembly.
The resolution was signed by Fubara, Wike, Prof. Odu, Nuhu Ribadu, Amaewhule, PDP Chairman, Rivers State, Aaron Chukwuemeka, and APC Chairman, Rivers State, Tony Okocha.
Fubara was emphatic: “Let me say it here, those groups of men who claim that they are assembly members, they are not existing. I want it to be on record.
The governor was speaking when he hosted a visiting delegation from Bayelsa State led by former Governor Seriake Dickson as well as political and traditional rulers from Bayelsa State, at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Fubara noted that in seeking peaceful resolution to the political crisis that erupted in the state last year, he had attended several reconciliation meetings, whose resolutions the other party, where the state’s lawmakers belong, had rebuffed.
Governor Fubara spoke on Monday evening when he hosted a delegation from Bayelsa State led by former governor of the state, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
He said he had acted like the big brother in the crisis, not interested in destroying the ‘house’, so that there would be meaningful development in the state while securing a tenable political relationship.
The governor lamented that any time there was a meeting, “we are faced with one thunder or lightning.”
He notad that when he assumed office, it was with the resolve to build on the existing foundation of development of past leaders, especially the immediate-past governor of the State and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
As the governor of the state, Fubara claimed that it would have been unusual to get into a political altercation given the amount of work that needed to be done for the people and the state.
Thediscovererng.com reports that the resolutions include: “All matters instituted in the courts by Governor Fubara, and his team, in respect of the political crisis in Rivers State, shall be withdrawn immediately
“All impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor of Rivers State by the Rivers State House of Assembly should be dropped immediately
“The leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly as led by the Amaewhule shall be recognised alongside the 27 members who resigned from the PDP
“The remunerations and benefits of all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff must be reinstated immediately and the governor of Rivers State shall, henceforth, not interfere with the full funding of the Rivers State House of Assembly
“The Rivers State House of Assembly shall choose where they want to sit and conduct their legislative business without interference and/or hindrance from the Executive arm of government
“Governor Fubara, shall represent the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.
“The names of all commissioners in the Rivers State Executive Council, who resigned their appointments because of the political crisis in the state should be resubmitted to the House of Assembly for approval
“There should not be a caretaker committee for the local governments in Rivers State. The dissolution of the Local Government administration is null and void and shall not be recognised.”
