Tottenham Hotspur players have publicly voiced their support for Ange Postecoglou to stay in the club amid speculations that the Australian could depart regardless of Wednesday’s Europa League triumph over Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou was the man to do it for Tottenham Hotspur. The Australian rose to the occasion to silence the critics and prove to doubters that he does, in fact, always win in his second season at a club. Wednesday’s 1-0 victory in Bilbao ended Spurs’ 17-year wait for silverware and brought them back to European glory for the first time since 1984.

But all that may still not be enough to save him from the sack. Reports from England inform that Spurs could still look to make a change in the dugout after their dismal domestic season. They are languishing in 17th place in the Premier League and on course for their worst season since returning to the top tier in 1978 after having been beaten a club-record 21 times.

Despite their domestic woes, players have backed the 59-year-old to remain in charge for the upcoming campaign. Skiper Son was the first to voice his thoughts: “We just have to look at the facts, at the fact that we haven’t won in 17 years, today is the day we finally won it. It’s the manager who wins the trophy, so we’ll see what’s going to happen.” Goalkeeper Vicario echoed Son’s words, as he said: “Yes, of course. He’s my gaffer.”

Postecoglou was also quizzed on his future after the full-time whistle. While not giving anything away on a potential exit, he admitted that he intends to stay for the long-term future. “I’m building a team for the next five or six years,” he said. “I would be disappointed if I couldn’t continue on this path. They are the best family that I’ve ever been associated with.”
