Tragedy as 3 dogs allegedly maul security guard to death

A security guard was allegedly killed by three Boerboel dogs around 4 a.m. at Pinnock Estate, Osapa, Lekki, Lagos.
The dogs, reportedly owned by a resident of the estate, were released late at night and are believed to have attacked the guard, who was on routine patrol.
The guard’s lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of the morning.
According to reports, the dogs’ owners arrived home and allegedly failed to secure the gate properly. Later in the night, they released the security dogs, which managed to get outside and reportedly attacked the guard. Short fences within the estate have reportedly been an issue, potentially allowing the dogs more freedom of movement outside the owner’s property.

The Lagos State Police Command, represented by PRO Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the dogs’ owner has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

In a twist, some canine behavior experts have raised questions about the alleged attack, noting the absence of visible bite marks on the guard’s body. The experts argue that the dogs may have been attempting to “sniff for identification,” suggesting they may not have directly attacked the guard. However, this theory has not been confirmed, and authorities are continuing to investigate.
As news of the incident circulated on social media, public outcry surged, with many calling for stricter regulations regarding pet safety in residential estates.
