Tragedy as ex-EFCC chairman loses mother

Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has lost his mother, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed Bawa.
She passed away on Wednesday night at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto.
Confirming her death, Bawa stated that his late mother would be laid to rest in Jega, Kebbi State, on Thursday. “She died in UDUTH Sokoto and will be buried in Jega, Kebbi, inshaAllah around 2:30 pm,” Bawa told reporters, though he refrained from providing further details.
According to Daily Trust, arrangements are currently being made to transport her remains to Kebbi, where the funeral rites will take place in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Bawa, who made history as the first civilian head of the EFCC when he assumed office in February 2021, was suspended from his position in July 2023 by President Bola Tinubu. Despite his suspension, the former EFCC boss remains a significant figure in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
