Tragedy as NYSC prospective corps member dies

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a prospective member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) en route to the orientation camp in Afikpo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 2 p.m. along the Amasiri-Okigwe Road, specifically in Amenu village, Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area. The victim was among 12 prospective corps members traveling in a 14-seater Toyota commercial bus to their NYSC destination.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi, Mr. Henry Igwe, revealed that the crash involved the commercial bus and a Mercedes Benz tipper. He attributed the cause to potential speeding by the bus driver.
“From our preliminary findings, speeding appears to have been a factor in the collision. The identities of the injured victims are yet to be confirmed, as they were rescued by bystanders before our team arrived,” Igwe said.
The injured passengers have been transported to the David Umahi Federal Hospital in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, where they are reportedly in stable condition.
