VIDEO: Borno govt under fire for providing meager ₦10,000, spaghetti to flood victims

The Borno State government is facing severe backlash for its handling of the recent floods in Maiduguri, which left thousands homeless.
Social media activist Verydarkman’s video exposed the government’s alleged provision of inadequate support to flood victims, sparking widespread outrage. According to Verydarkman, each victim received a mere ₦10,000 and a packet of spaghetti before being evicted from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, despite many homes still being submerged.

This move is particularly shocking considering the nearly ₦20 billion in donations from well-meaning Nigerians, including ₦1 billion from Aliko Dangote and 50 trucks of rice from Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Verydarkman’s video showed the deserted IDP camp, with individuals sleeping outside at night, unable to return to their flooded homes. This has raised questions about the government’s role in disaster response and accountability for donated resources.
In contrast, organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) have pledged support to flood-displaced persons in Borno State, addressing health challenges and providing essential services WHO’s efforts include deploying mobile clinics, providing medical supplies, and enhancing disease surveillance.
As the debate continues, one thing is clear: the people of Borno State deserve better support during this crisis.
