WAEC releases 2024 results

West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the results of the 2024 Second Series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.
The announcement came on Sunday through a statement signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosore Adesina.
A total of 68,342 candidates registered for the exam, showing a 20% decrease from 2023.
Out of these, 65,023 sat for the exam across 5,067 centers nationwide.
Among them were 157 candidates with special needs, including those with visual and hearing impairments and albinism.
WAEC reported that 34,878 candidates, or 53.64%, obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics. Additionally, 43,923 candidates, representing 67.55%, passed at least five subjects, regardless of English and Mathematics.
The gender distribution showed that 17,992 female candidates (51.58%) met the minimum requirement, compared to 16,886 males (48.41%).
The examination body confirmed that 95.90% of candidates had their results fully processed and released.
However, 2,669 candidates (4.10%) had some subjects still being processed due to errors from their end.
Meanwhile, 2,577 candidates (3.96%) had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice.
WAEC advised affected candidates to visit its online complaints portal for further action.
All cases will be reviewed before decisions are made by the Council’s committee.
The 2024 exam, conducted between October 25 and December 20, introduced a hybrid mode combining traditional paper-based testing with a computer-based option.
Candidates were allowed to choose their preferred format during registration.
