We have cleared N98.8bn debt in 15 months — Kogi Govt

The Kogi State Government has announced that it has successfully cleared N98.8 billion in inherited debt within just 15 months of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration.
The debt dates back to previous administrations, including that of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and Captain Idris Wada.
A major component of the debt was the N50 billion salary bailout received during the Wada administration.
“So far, this administration… has cleared a total of N98.8 billion inherited from previous administrations,”
— Ashiru Idris, Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning.
The commissioner attributed the accomplishment to a boost in internally generated revenue (IGR).
He credited Governor Ododo for strengthening the Kogi State Inland Revenue Service, enabling it to optimize revenue collection.
The Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, now has a perimeter fence after a previous security breach.
Kogi State is establishing a Climate Change Agency to proactively address the environmental and ecological challenges linked to global climate shifts.
State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, emphasized that these actions reflect the administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline, security, and environmental sustainability.
