Governors meet over minimum wage, LG autonomy

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has called an extensive meeting in Abuja, bringing together all 36 state governors to discuss and address a range of critical national matters.
The National Minimum Wage, currently under review by the Tripartite Committee, is a pressing matter that commands significant attention.
The governors are gathering at the NGF National Secretariat to coordinate their response to the minimum wage issue and ensure a cohesive approach, as well as to discuss local government autonomy in the context of recent federal government initiatives.
The federal government’s lawsuit at the Supreme Court seeks to enforce full autonomy for local government areas, barring governors from arbitrary dissolution of democratically elected local government leaders and ensuring direct allocation of funds from the Federation Account to local governments.
Governors from different states including Oyo, Zamfara, Anambra, Delta, and Gombe, along with deputy governors from Akwa Ibom and Borno, are already present for the meeting.
The agenda for the session covers various updates and discussions:
– Chairman’s Welcome Remarks
– Minutes of the Last Meeting
– Matters Arising and Chairman’s Briefs
– Local Government Autonomy Update
– ECA, PPT & Royalties Accounts Reconciliation/Debt Net-Off
– Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage Update
– Review of NEC Agenda
– Updates by NGF Secretariat
– Program Updates, Health/HCD F. Presentations (World Bank NG-CARES, SABER, Nigeria for Women)
– Presidential Address
– Any Other Business (AOB)
The NGF meeting highlights the collaborative spirit of state governors as they work together to tackle key challenges impacting governance and socioeconomic progress nationwide.
