Breaking: Protesters in Katsina threaten to raze Buhari’s residence

A significant number of protesters, on Thursday, fueled by anger, gathered and forced their way into the Daura residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State.
The demonstration was part of the broader #EndBadGovernance protests sweeping across the nation.
The situation deteriorated across multiple states, leading to loss of life and prompting a minimum of three state governors to declare curfews in an effort to restore order.
According to eyewitnesses, the protesters tried to force their way into the former president’s home, venting their anger and discontent over the nation’s severe economic woes.
They set up a bonfire in front of his house and chanted loudly, “Bama yi! Bama yi! Bama yi!” – a Hausa phrase meaning “we don’t want,” commonly used to express disapproval during protests.
An unidentified individual from Buhari’s residence addressed the mob, suggesting they select a spokesperson to record a message for the former president.
Following this, the protesters moved towards the palace of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar Farouk.
Amidst the protest march, security personnel fired on the crowd, striking one demonstrator in the leg, yet the protesters continued their demonstration undeterred despite the intense gunfire aimed at dispersing them.
In the wake of the incident, Daura has seen a marked escalation in security presence, with reinforced measures put in place to ensure public safety and prevent further unrest.
