IGP orders Police officers nationwide to wear black bands in tribute to Lagbaja

In a heartfelt tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed all officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to wear black armbands for the next seven days.
This gesture is part of a nationwide mourning period to honor the contributions of the esteemed military leader, who was known for his commitment to combating violent crimes and insurgency in the country.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s passing has been met with an outpouring of condolences and respect from Nigerians and members of the security community, who recognized his legacy of bravery, dedication, and strong leadership. As a revered figure in Nigeria’s defense forces, he was credited with numerous achievements in the fight against insurgency and organized crime. The black band order is a symbolic gesture to honor his memory and the impact he made on the country’s security landscape.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on behalf of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, emphasizing that Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s contributions “deserve to be honored by all means.” He extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the late COAS, whose service and commitment will remain an inspiring legacy for both military and police officers.
