Gunmen attack federal lawmaker convoy

Gunmen launched a violent attack on the convoy of Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, the lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, on Sunday night in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
Onwusibe, who chairs the House Committee on Financial Crimes, was not in the convoy at the time of the attack, which occurred around 9 PM. The assailants ambushed the vehicle using a Toyota Corolla and were dressed in black outfits resembling police armor.
Two police escorts and a driver were the only occupants of the convoy. Tragically, one of the police officers was shot and killed instantly, while another sustained injuries.
Responding to the attack, security personnel from the Ubakala Police Station exchanged gunfire with the attackers, who fled the scene. Investigations into the incident have begun, with preliminary suspicions indicating that the perpetrators may be linked to kidnapping activities in the area.
