VIDEO: German president arrives Nigeria for official visit


German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier touched down in Nigeria on Tuesday night for an official visit, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
Upon arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, he was warmly received by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Steinmeier’s visit, which will run until December 12, 2024, is packed with high-profile engagements. In Abuja, the German President is scheduled to hold discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and meet Alieu Omar Touray, the President of the ECOWAS Commission. The meetings are expected to address key regional and international issues, fostering stronger cooperation between Nigeria and Germany.
Following his activities in the nation’s capital, Steinmeier will travel to Lagos, where his itinerary includes interactions with business leaders and a visit to a prominent start-up hub. He is also set to meet cultural luminaries such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, reflecting Germany’s commitment to supporting cultural exchange and fostering civil society partnerships.
While in Lagos, Steinmeier will also explore the city’s urban development projects, delving into the environmental and social challenges faced by one of Africa’s largest megacities. The visit underscores Germany’s interest in collaborating with Nigeria on sustainable urban solutions and economic development.
This visit is anticipated to strengthen bilateral relations, deepen cultural ties, and open new avenues for collaboration between the two nations.
