Popular Nigerian pastor, Jerry Eze, is at the center of a social media storm after a video surfaced showing the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, sharing a testimony during a recent service at his church.
The moment, which was filled with gratitude and praise, has sparked mixed reactions from netizens, with many questioning the pastor’s association with political figures.
The controversy arose as some critics accused Pastor Eze of giving a platform to a politician they believe was involved in electoral malpractice. A widely circulated comment online read, “Pastors with the urge to feed from politicians will never be a surprise to me. Pastor Jerry Eze and his church are praising God with a politician that openly rigged an election in Edo State. Whatever happened to ‘Men of God’ speaking truth to power? What God cannot do does not exist actually.”

While the church service aimed to celebrate divine intervention and success stories, the backlash has reopened discussions about the role of religious leaders in holding public officials accountable. Supporters of Pastor Eze, however, argue that the church is a place for everyone, including politicians, to seek repentance and give thanks.
As the debate continues to trend, neither Pastor Jerry Eze nor Governor Okpebholo has issued a formal response.
