Supporters of popular Nigerian influencer VeryDarkMan have taken to social media to demand a boycott of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) following his alleged arrest at one of its branches in Abuja.

The arrest, reportedly carried out by police on the bank’s orders, has created social media outrage, with many accusing GTBank of targeting the wrong person. VeryDarkMan was said to have accompanied his mother to the bank to protest unauthorized deductions from her account before he was allegedly whisked away by law enforcement officers.

The incident has led to a wave of online protests under the hashtag #FreeVDM, with users urging Nigerians to close their accounts with the bank as a form of solidarity and resistance.

One user, @WizardBJ4, wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“It’s time to cancel @gtbank. They’ve lost credibility by messing with the WRONG person, @thatverydarkman. This is a RED FLAG. I strongly advise y’all to close your accounts now. They are not RELIABLE and can’t PROTECT their customers.”

Another supporter echoed the sentiment, stating:

“PLEASE REMOVE YOUR MONEY FROM @gtbank until they free VDM or we know his whereabouts… I’ve already moved my savings to @palmpay_ng.”

The protest has gained momentum with several users sharing screenshots of account closures and pledging to mobilize even larger actions until VeryDarkMan is released.

As of the time of filing this report, GTBank and the Nigeria Police Force have yet to issue any official statements regarding the incident.
