Again! Police failed to arraign protesters

Human rights activist and lawyer Mr Deji Adeyanju, said the Nigerian Police for the fourth time failed to arraign protesters.

Adeyanju speaking in an interview said the failure of the police is deliberate and wants to perpetually keep the protesters in custody because they do not have any tangible and solid charge against them.

Currently, 100 protesters are in police custody in Abuja, but on Monday we ensure all of them are freed.

It’s obvious Police don’t have anything to charge protesters

“The police do not want to charge them because they have nothing on them but they just want to keep them perpetually.”

We’re going to sue FG on Monday

“We are going to sue them on Monday. They are punishing the protesters for protesting, and they are also trying to prevent future protests from holding; arresting protesters and refusing to charge them, and that also means they do not have anything tangible on them, and if they have they would have charged them since.

“Their refusal to charge them, they should release them because this is the fourth time they told us they are going to charge them, and throughout today we were all in court, a coalition of different lawyers were all in court but they failed to show up.”

Int’l community should withdraw aid from security agencies

“The Inspector General of Police, IGP, and security agencies in Nigeria are clearly violating the rights of Nigerians, development partners should call upon them to respect human rights and release protesters.”

“International partners that are funding security agencies should withdraw aid from them if they do not respect human rights.”

Attorney General call security agencies to release protesters

“The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), someone whom we all have respect and regard for should call on the security agencies to release protesters and respect their freedom that the constitution has provided for the citizens and unnecessary detention of peaceful protesters.

“We are also charging the security agencies that should face the criminal gangs terrorising the country and who just killed an emir and leave protesters alone.”
