Awoniyi confident of Forest topflight qualification

Nottingham Forest star man, Taiwo Awoniyi, has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to retain their Premier League status despite their present issues with the Financial Fair Play rules.
Having just returned to fitness and with Nottingham Forest not quite confirmed as a definite Premier League club next season, Awoniyi is already fielding questions about his City Ground future.
The talisman, who inspired the 2022/23 season’s surge towards safety, was a bit-part player last term, with injury restricting him to only five minutes of football in the last two months of the 2023/24 campaign.
Thankfully, Forest have negotiated another storm-tossed season and, barring their FFP misgivings, will retain their top-flight status. Now, attention has turned to the makeup of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad and the desire to trim numbers, and get profit on the books with names like Callum Hudson-Odoi being mentioned for an exit. Whether Awoniyi is among the names up for departure remains to be seen.
The striker is confident about the Reds’ chances of avoiding an exit from the English topflight.
“I think for us, we’ll be there. We’ll be in the Premier League next season, but the most important thing is to win the next game.”
The 26-year-old was asked about his status with the Tricky Trees as well in quotes relayed by Yahoo News.
“That’s a tough one. For me, I am still under contract at Nottingham Forest, for sure, I am here. For now, I am a player of Nottingham Forest,” Awoniyi said.
Awoniyi still has three years left on the deal he signed when he moved to Forest from Union Berlin in June 2022. He has played 52 times and scored 17 goals.
