Bobrisky sues EFCC over alleged human rights violations

Controversial Nigerian socialite, Bobrisky, has filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging a breach of his fundamental human rights.
The social media personality is seeking justice for what he describes as unfair treatment, defamation and an invasion of his privacy.
According to court filings, Bobrisky’s legal action stems from an EFCC investigation triggered by a viral WhatsApp voice call, allegedly shared by popular activist Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan. The socialite contends that the EFCC failed to verify the authenticity of the recording before summoning him, leading to widespread ridicule on social media, threats from unknown individuals, and significant damage to his reputation.
Bobrisky argues that the EFCC’s actions violated several of his constitutional rights, including:
Right to Fair Hearing: He claims he was denied legal representation and the opportunity to cross-examine witnesses.
Right to Privacy: The publicized investigation exposed him to online harassment and unwarranted scrutiny.
Failure to Investigate: He alleges that the EFCC acted on unverified information without conducting a thorough investigation.
In addition to the ₦1 billion sought for damages, Bobrisky is demanding an additional ₦200 million from the National Assembly for what he describes as reckless reporting and failure to investigate the allegations adequately. He is also requesting a public apology from the EFCC and other implicated security agencies.
This lawsuit, according to Bobrisky, is more than a personal battle—it’s a stance against what he perceives as systemic abuse by law enforcement and security agencies. “No one is above the law, not even the EFCC,” he stated in a recent post on social media, adding that his fight is for the protection of human rights and justice for all Nigerians.
The EFCC has yet to respond to the allegations or the lawsuit as of the time of this report.
