Breaking: Anxiety as Supreme court hears electoral disputes in Bayelsa, Kogi guber elections

The Supreme Court has commenced hearing on the contentious 2023 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States, sparking intense political interest.
In Bayelsa, former Minister Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is challenging the electoral victory of Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Diri the winner, but Sylva contests the outcome.
Similarly, in Kogi, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is disputing the declaration of Governor Usman Ododo of the APC as the winner. INEC announced Ododo the winner, but Ajaka seeks justice.
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunals and the Court of Appeal had earlier affirmed INEC’s declarations, but the Supreme Court’s verdict will be final.
The hearing marks a crucial moment in Nigeria’s electoral process, with the Supreme Court set to deliver a landmark judgment.
