Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially announced the renaming of The Polytechnic Ibadan in honour of the late former governor of the state, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo.

Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during an interdenominational commendation service held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, in tribute to the late statesman.

According to the governor, the institution will henceforth be known as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan, in recognition of Olunloyo’s outstanding contributions to education and governance in Oyo State.

Discovererngr.com reports that Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, who passed away on April 6, 2025, just weeks before his 90th birthday, was the pioneer rector of the Polytechnic and later served as governor of the state during the Second Republic.
