Breaking: Osun monarch, NASS member to stand sureties for Adeleke’s ally over terrorism

Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo capital of Osun State presided over by Justice Emmanuel Ayoola has admitted Olalekan Oyeyemi, an ally of Governor Ademola Adeleke on bail.
Oyeyemi popularly known as Emir, who is an appointee of Adeleke, was dragged by the Inspector-General of Police to court on 11 counts of conspiracy, killing, arson and terrorism.
Upon arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to the offences pressed against him but was remanded in Ife Correctional Facility as his counsel, Edmund Biriomoni moved a formal bail application on seven grounds while the prosecution counsel, Francis Osie opposed it with Section 162 and 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice 2015.
At the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Ayoola admitted Oyeyemi to bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties in like sum.
He said: “I have looked at the bail application and counter-application. The ground of the prosecution counsel opposing the bail is not sufficient enough not to grant him bail. He has never stood trial on any criminal matter.
“According to the counter-application filed by the prosecutor, the police are yet to recover the instrument of crime from the suspects seven months after arrest.
“I hereby grant him bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties; one must be a traditional ruler and the other must be a member of the National Assembly or Level 17 Civil servant either State or Federal.”
He noted the sureties must submit a Certificate of Return or letter of appointment to the court registry as the suspect will also submit his International passport with a letter of appointment to the court.
Justice Ayoola added that Adeleke’s ally should also pay a sum N5 million to the court registry with an undertaken letter to be of good conduct and not to be involved in any violent activities or else his bail condition will be jeopardised.
