Destiny Etiko faces backlash over comment on Nigeria’s economic hardship

Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has come under fire for her recent comment on the state of Nigeria’s economy.
In an Instagram post, Etiko lamented the rising cost of fuel, which now costs ₦1,200 per litre, making it difficult for ordinary citizens to afford basic necessities.
Etiko expressed her disappointment that the recent protests, which took place on August 1st, had not yielded any positive results. She wrote, “I honestly thought the protest was going to help salvage this economic hardship in this country… It’s becoming too hard for a normal layman to eat three square meals.”

However, her comment sparked outrage among many Nigerians, who took to her comment section to criticize her. Some accused her of being insensitive and only speaking out now that the economic hardship was affecting her personally. Others felt that she was hypocritical for not participating in the protests herself.
