Edo election: PDP blasts APC over fake news, reaffirms Ighodalo’s candidacy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for spreading false information about its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the Edo State governorship election.
In a press statement, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, described the rumors that Ighodalo had stepped down as a desperate attempt by the APC to mislead the public. The PDP accused the APC of engaging in pre-election propaganda, labeling it a sign of the ruling party’s fear of imminent defeat.
According to the PDP, the APC and its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, are rattled by Dr. Ighodalo’s rising popularity and widespread support across Edo State. “The APC’s resort to circulating fake news about Dr. Asue Ighodalo just days before the election is a clear indication of their panic,” the party said.
The PDP also exposed the APC’s alleged attempt to falsify official documents, claiming the opposition had used a fake letterhead and incorrect logo to imitate PDP communications. “By attempting to forge our letterhead and the signatures of our Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, the APC has once again shown its penchant for deceit and lies,” the statement continued.
The PDP reaffirmed its confidence in Dr. Ighodalo’s victory, warning the APC against further attempts to manipulate or disrupt the election process. The party also urged the people of Edo State to remain vigilant and ensure their voices are heard in the upcoming election.
The PDP specifically mentioned one Aye S. O. Egberi, a self-confessed director of the group “APC All The Way,” who reportedly circulated the fake materials on social media. The party called on law enforcement agencies to investigate APC members responsible for spreading the false information.
“The people of Edo are determined, and no amount of APC mischief can stop their will from prevailing,” the statement concluded.
