Former PDP chairman shot dead

Tragedy struck in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State on June 21, 2025, as Hon. Yayough Aondoakaa, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the LGA, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Wannune Market.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, revealing that the assailants, who arrived on motorcycles, asked for Aondoakaa by name before executing him at close range. The brazen daylight killing has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many residents now gripped by fear and uncertainty.
Local sources disclosed that this was not the first targeted attack on Aondoakaa’s family. In a chilling reminder of rising insecurity in the region, his wife was killed in a similar attack at their residence last year, a case that remains unresolved.
As of the time of filing this report, Benue State security agencies have yet to issue an official statement. However, investigations have reportedly commenced at the scene of the crime.
