INEC trains trainers ahead of Edo, Ondo voter registration exercise

The Electoral Institute of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) program in preparation for the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo and Ondo states.
The ToT, which took place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the TEI Auditorium, is the first step in the conduct of the approved CVR exercise in the affected states. The program aimed to equip trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to train Registration Officers for the exercise.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, Chairman of the Board of Electoral Institute and National Commissioner, emphasized the significance of the ToT and tasked the trainers to ensure their mastery of the CVR methodology, particularly the use of the INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) and the self-service registration portal.
Prof. Zuru urged the trainers to train the Registration Officers properly, as their performance will affect the confidence of citizens participating in the process. He also emphasized the need for courteous, polite, and respectful behaviour towards all persons.
The Director General of the Electoral Institute, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Iridis, welcomed participants and urged them to ensure a good understanding of the CVR procedures. He emphasized that quality delivery of the CVR procedures during the training of Registration Officers will impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the officers and the overall success of the CVR exercise.
The ToT program featured presentations on CVR methodology, and a hands-on practical session conducted by the ICT department. Participants included trainers from the TEI and Headquarters, as well as representatives from the VR and ICT departments.
The CVR exercise in Edo and Ondo states is scheduled to commence on May 27, 2024.
