Inter-Roma handed new date as Barca gain advantage in UCL tie

Serie A confirmed that Inter Milan’s game against Roma has been rescheduled from April 26 at 18:00 CET to April 27 at 15:00 CET, giving the ‘Nerazzurri’ a day less to prepare for the first leg of their Champions League tie against Barcelona on April 30.

Saturday’s Serie A matches, along with all other sporting events for the day, have been rescheduled to avoid a clash with Pope Francis’ funeral. The Vatican confirmed that the 88-year-old passed away on Monday after suffering a stroke.

Inter’s match against Roma was scheduled to kick off at the San Siro at 18.00 CET on April 26, but with the funeral taking place in Vatican City at 10:00 CET, the game has now been set for Sunday, April 27 at 15:00 CET.

The change gives the ‘Nerazzurri’ one day less to rest before they travel to Catalunya to face Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, and on the other hand, a massive advantage for Hansi Flick’s side.

While Inter have less than three days between their matches against Roma and Barcelona, the ‘Blaugrana’ have four between their Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid on Saturday and the Italians’ visit to the Montjuic next Wednesday.

Como vs Genoa and Lazio vs Parma have also been handed new dates. Cesc Fabregas’ men will now host the ‘Rossoblu’ on Sunday, April 27 at 12:30 CET, while the ‘Biancocelesti’ face the ‘Crociati’ at the Olimpico on Monday, April 28 at 20:45 CET.
