Kidnapped ex-NYSC DG regains freedom

Former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Mahrazu Tsiga (rtd), has regained his freedom after spending 22 days in the custody of kidnappers.
Tsiga was released on Friday, though details surrounding his release remain unclear, including whether a ransom was paid. According to Channels Television, he is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.
The retired general was abducted on February 6, 2025, when gunmen, reportedly led by notorious bandit kingpin Babaro, invaded his residence in Tsifa Village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. During the attack, two people sustained injuries, while one of the assailants was mistakenly shot dead by his own gang.
The kidnappers had initially demanded N250 million for his release, but security agencies and Katsina State officials have yet to comment on the circumstances surrounding his freedom.
As news of his release circulates, many Nigerians remain concerned about the rising wave of insecurity and high-profile kidnappings across the country.
