LAWMA arrests 2 for illegal waste disposal

Two individuals were taken into custody by the Lagos Waste Management Authority on Thursday, accused of improperly disposing of waste at a Surulere roundabout.
Muyiwa Gbadegesin, The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, LAWMA, , disclosed in a statement shared on X.
“These two culprits were captured red-handed by @Lawma_gov while dumping waste at Shitta Roundabout, Surulere early this morning. We have brought them to court at the Task Force, Oshodi for prosecution.
“If you love Lagos, please spread the #ZeroToleranceLagos message: if we catch you dumping waste or committing any other environmental infractions in our Lagos, you will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” he wrote.
In July, the state government identified two residents caught disposing trash in floodwater in the Ijesha community in the Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area of the state.
This followed a photo shared on social media showing a man and a woman rolling the thrash drum in the flooded water on the street.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who reacted on X, said, “The house has been identified and locked immediately by the Environmental Health Service Department of Itire-Ikate LCDA.”
A market on Lagos Island was closed by government officials on Thursday due to alleged environmental infractions, according to a recent report.
“The Lagos State government sealed Sura Market, Lagos Island over environmental infractions,” he wrote while posting pictures and video from the scene.
