No shift in NEC meeting, no reinstatement of Anyanwu – PDP insists

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly denied claims that the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, has been postponed or cancelled.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, and signed by key members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the party also refuted the announcement by Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, that Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated as the party’s National Secretary.

According to the NWC, Damagum’s statements during a press briefing earlier in the day directly contradict the resolution of the 99th NEC meeting, which had explicitly scheduled the 100th NEC gathering for June 30 and referred all issues regarding the office of the National Secretary to that same meeting.

“The pronouncements by the Acting National Chairman have no foundation,” the NWC emphasized. “No organ, group, or individual within the party has the constitutional authority to cancel, overrule, or vary NEC decisions.”

Citing Section 31 (3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the NWC reiterated that the NEC is the party’s highest decision-making organ after the National Convention, and its resolutions are binding on all party organs, officers, chapters, and members.

On the matter of Senator Anyanwu, the NWC described Damagum’s claim of his reinstatement as “misleading,” insisting it runs contrary to the standing NEC resolution.

The statement was jointly signed by:

Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, Deputy National Chairman (South)

Hon. (Arc) Setonji Koshoedo, Acting National Secretary

Hon. Ahmed Yayari Mohammed, National Treasurer

Sir Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, National Auditor

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary

Dr. Woyengikuro Daniel, National Financial Secretary

High Chief Ali Odefa, National Vice Chairman (South East)

Hon. Emmanuel Ogidi, Caretaker Chairman (South-South)

Hon. Amina Darasimi D. Bryhm, National Woman Leader

Senator Hayatu Bello Gwarzo

Hon. Ajisafe Kamoru Toyese, National Vice Chairman (South-West)

The party emphasized that preparations for the June 30 NEC meeting remain on course and urged all stakeholders to disregard contrary reports.
