Otti promises more support for NYSC

Abia State Governor Alex Otti, says his administration is committed to strengthening and enhancing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to nurture its objectives in the young graduate members posted to the state.
Otti, who was represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, handed down this assurance on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna in Bende Local Government Area of the state during the swearing-in of the 2025 Batch “A” Stream II corps members deployed in the state.
He said, “Your participation in the National Youth Service Corps scheme is a testament of your dedication to nation-building and national cohesion.
“As the leader of Abia State, I recognise the critical role the NYSC plays in our national integration and development efforts. “Our administration is committed to strengthening the scheme and enhancing its capacity to nurture patriotic values in our young graduates.
“We believe that your service year will be a transformative experience, shaping your perspectives and equipping you with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a meaningful impact in our society.
“We consider you as critical partners in our national transformation efforts, driven by our social compact contract with the people of Abia State as encapsulated in the New Abia Project Blueprint.
“Our blueprint focuses on institutional and structural reforms, sustained economic growth and development.
“We will vigorously pursue the rebuilding, maintenance, upgrade and expansion of our critical infrastructure, including the ongoing rehabilitation of your orientation camp anchored on the rule of law, good governance, and the pursuit of equity and justice.”
The governor added that his administration is committed to creating an enabling environment that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship and social mobility.
“My administration will provide the requisite enablement for you to effectively discharge your mandate.
“We will work closely with the NYSC management to ensure that your service year is productive and fulfilling,” he added.
In his speech, the Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, Abia State, and Commissioner, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba said, “The current administration under Dr. Alex Otti has consistently maintained a supportive attitude towards the Abia State NYSC secretariat and its activities.
“This administration has continued to fulfill its statutory obligations to the scheme and, in pursuit of this, shall continue to support and assist the scheme within the limited available state resources.”
Earlier in her address, the State Cooordinator, NYSC, Gladys Adama stated, “I am delighted to report also that these corps members are adjusting to the regimented camp life and have shown their readiness to learn.
“With this attitude, I wish to assure Your Excellency boldly of the NYSC Scheme’s commitment to the development of Abia State through the posting of these youths to various communities across the state.”
