Police arrest lecturer over alleged kidnapping role

The Benue State Police Command arrested Tersagh Ichor, a lecturer at Joseph Saawuan Tarka University Makurdi (JOSTUM), for allegedly orchestrating the abduction of Susan Anyagh, wife of the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chairman.
Police spokesperson SP Sewuese Anene confirmed the development in Makurdi on Friday, December 13, 2024. Anene revealed that Anyagh was abducted on December 7 along Otukpo Road while driving home from Kanshio after collecting money from a client. Her captors reportedly flagged her down, claiming they needed assistance. Once she stopped, they entered her vehicle at gunpoint and ordered her to drive.
According to Anene, the victim identified Dr. Ichor during the abduction and alleged that he ignored her cries for help. She also claimed her abductors received a phone call from Ichor instructing them to kill her.
Fortunately, the victim was later abandoned by her abductors along the Yandev-Ugbema Road after being assaulted and left unconscious. She was rescued by authorities and taken to a nearby clinic, where she regained consciousness.
The police have since arrested Dr. Ichor and launched an investigation into the incident. The Benue Commissioner of Police, Steve Yabanet, assured the public that further details would be provided as investigations progress.
