Police rescue 27 foreigners from human traffickers

The Lagos State Police Command has rescued 27 foreigners suspected to be victims of human trafficking in the Isheri Oshun area of the state.
According to the police, the victims were being held by their agent, who had planned to traffic them out of Nigeria. Acting on a tip-off, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) swiftly moved to the location and freed the captives.
Speaking during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh Moshood.
He revealed that the victims, comprising 18 males and 9 females, were locked inside an apartment when the officers arrived. Further investigations identified them as citizens of Ghana and Benin Republic.
“Preliminary findings show that they were lured into Nigeria with the promise of employment,” Hundeyin stated.
The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend those behind the trafficking syndicate while the rescued victims receive necessary care.
