Real Madrid: Modric makes history at Club World Cup

Real Madrid’s victory against Salzburg leaves Luka Modric as the player with the most wins in the Club World Cup.

One more would equal Toni Kroos’ record in the overall standings.

He said goodbye to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the La Liga season, but the Club World Cup was to provide Luka Modric’s final appearances in a Real Madrid shirt.

The United States is witnessing his last passes with the number ’10’ on his back. Xabi Alonso has used him in all three matches in a secondary role that the Croatian accepts and interprets. And it helps him to continue adding to his record.

With the Real Madrid’s triumph over Salzburg, the Balkan footballer surpassed Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos to become the player with the most victories with Los Blancos in the Club World Cup: 10 – out of 11 he has played. Combining new and old formats, Modric will leave the club with one more line in his history of records.

He already had the most appearances thanks to this edition (11), leaving behind the aforementioned Benzema and Kroos (9), as well as Rapha Varane, Dani Carvajal and Marcelo (8).

Beyond the Madrid ranking, Luka Modric is within striking distance of the same record, but in the competition. Toni Kroos reached nine wins as a Merengue player, but adds two more with Bayern Munich to take his tally to 11 and lead, for now, alone in the overall standings. Karim Benzema, who added a win with Al Ittihad, is on Modric’s 10, followed by Marcelo (9), Cristiano Ronaldo (8), Varane (8) and Carvajal (8).

Competitions with Modric in the historical record of victories for Real Madrid (top 10)

Club World Cup – 1st (10)

Spanish Super Cup – 1st (7)

European Super Cup – 1st (5)

Champions League – 3rd (84)

La Liga – 7th (266)
